POSITION: Housekeeper - Full or Part-Time

REPORTS TO: Director of Event Sales & Operations

START DATE: 06/01/2022 – 10/31/2022

DURATION: Full-Time or Part Time, Seasonal (5 months), Non-exempt

LOCATION: Thompson Island – Boston, MA


The housekeeper ensures the cleanliness of guest rooms and common spaces in Thompson Island’s guest facilities. The Housekeeper reports directly to the Director of Event Sales & Operations.


  • Clean guest rooms
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Vacuum clean carpets and rugs
  • Dust and polish furniture and fittings
  • Clean metal fixtures and fittings
  • Empty and clean trash containers
  • Dispose of trash in a sanitary manner
  • Clean washbasins, mirrors, tubs, and showers
  • Wipe down glass surfaces
  • Make up beds and change linens as required
  • Wash windows as scheduled
  • Collect dirty laundry
  • Sort, fold, and put away clean laundry
  • Ensure adequate stock of cleaning supplies
  • Keep cleaning equipment in good working order
  • Maintain a clean storage area for equipment and supplies
  • Observe and report any maintenance issues in buildings

  • Director of Event Sales and Operations
  • Housekeeping staff


  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques, and methods
  • Physical stamina and mobility including the ability to reach, kneel and bend
  • Ability to lift, push and pull a required load of at least 50lbs
  • Introductory understanding of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center and its mission


  • Requires working on Thompson Island, Boston Harbor
  • Interacting with co-workers from all departments and clients
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals
  • 24 to 40 hours per week, as scheduled, Sunday-Saturday. The weekly schedule may change as required. May be necessary to work Weekends and Holidays.
  • Loading and unloading supplies for operations may require periods of time spent outdoors in inclement weather
  • This position requires a criminal background check


  • All positions reporting hours to the island are asked to assist in loading/unloading cargo from the boat as able. This involves lifting and walking with parcels upwards of 50lbs on and off moving docks and up/down ramps
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to kneel, bend and crawl
  • Able to squat and crouch
  • Able to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
  • Able to work in buildings without air conditioning

Must be currently vaccinated against COVID-19, up to CDC recommendation
