REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Institutional Giving

DURATION: Full-Time, Exempt

LOCATION: Mainland Office & Thompson Island


POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Engagement and Stewardship Coordinator (DESC) plays a unique role in the Development Department of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center. They will be a key member of a five-person team focused on volunteer engagement and growing corporate partnerships. They will collaborate across the organization with all departments. The DESC will report to the Associate Director of Institutional Giving (ADIG).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Volunteer Program Coordination (50%)

  • Manage all communications with volunteer groups post booking leading up to their volunteer day
  • Communicate the volunteer schedule in coordination with the island maintenance staff, Programs Department, and Corporate Volunteer Program Coordinator (CVPC)
  • Attend all volunteer days (greet groups, coordinate with VPC on work assignments, provide tours, and serve as an ambassador for Thompson Island)
  • Analyze program performance, constantly working to improve the volunteer experience
  • Manage all vendor relationships associated with the volunteer program, including securing in-kind donations
  • Execute and manage a process of capturing information of and cultivating all volunteers through a pipeline to determine further engagement and/or support for the organization both through volunteerism, philanthropy, Outward Bound Professional (OBP), and for-profit events
  • Assist the ADIG in converting a certain percentage of volunteers into donors on an annual basis
  • Assist the ADIG in identifying and cultivating any executive-level volunteer that presents a possibility of a higher level of involvement with the organization and involving the right level of management and senior management in the process
  • Execute and manage a stewardship program for island volunteers that increases their exposure to and celebrates their commitment to the island


Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Campaign Coordination (30%)

  • Assist the ADIG with key elements in annual Peer to Peer fundraising campaigns including (but not limited to)
  • 4k Trail Run runner/team peer-to-peer fundraising campaign
    • Solicit donations for incentive items to be used to engage runners in fundraising
    • Assist in the planning of our annual appreciation event to keep fundraising teams and individuals
  • Boston Marathon Team (when Thompson Island is granted numbers)
    • Oversee the Thompson Island Runners' Instagram feed and social media communication strategy.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of team training runs and marathon day activities, including on-course race support as needed, and pre-race celebration for team members and
  • Falmouth Road Race (when Thompson Island is granted numbers)
    • Oversee the Thompson Island Runners' Instagram feed and social media communication strategy.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of one team training run and day activities, including on-course race support as needed.


Fundraising and Event Support (15%)

  • Coordinate event support volunteers for both the Gala and 4k Trail Run
  • Coordinate the Thompson Island Gear Up, Give Back Program in partnership with the ADIG
  • Other tasks as assigned by ADIG related to corporate fundraising, stewardship, and event support

Development Administrative Support (5%)

  • Support data entry and data cleanup projects
  • In-house mailings of varying sizes, including ordering supplies for projects
  • Provide administrative support to the department as needed


ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position reports to the Associate Director of Institutional Giving and works alongside the Development department.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of work experience related to the non-profit industry and/or volunteer management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Some experience with public speaking is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and meet all deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with CRM databases, specifically Raiser’s Edge
  • Valid Drivers License and ability to operate a vehicle

 

WORK CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position based out of Thompson Island’s mainland office in Boston’s Seaport District, including weekly trips to Thompson Island during the height of the operating season. Some night and weekend work is required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The position requires regular 25-30 minute ferry trips and the ability to traverse varying terrains of Thompson Island. Some of the work requires managing teams on light landscaping projects, including being outdoors in varying weather conditions. The candidate should be able to lift and carry at least 35lbs.
